Tamara & Peter Donn in the Olympics Opening Ceremony

Tamara & Peter Donn in the Olympics Opening Ceremony

Since I was young I have always had a secret desire to perform as a dancer but have never followed it through – until now!  I am quite shy and never really thought I was good enough.  So imagine the horror when my husband told me one day that he had applied for me (and him) to audition to be in the Olympics Opening Ceremony!  Although completely terrified I did audition and take part (you can read more about it here).  Suffice to say the whole experience was incredible even though I didn’t get a dancing role.

During the rehearsals I met a bubbly and enthusiastic fellow volunteer who encouraged me to join the Rickmansworth Players and take part in The Sound of Music.  Having never performed in anything since the age of about 11 (apart from the Olympics which was actually less scary!) when I was given 1 line to say and was totally terrified, I auditioned to be a nun in the chorus where I could spend most of my time hiding behind the other more confident nuns!

The Wedding Singer Rehearsal

The Wedding Singer Rehearsal – with Rickmansworth Players

It was so much fun that when I heard that Rickmansworth Players were performing The Wedding Singer, I thought this is the moment to follow my secret dream.  Having nervously got through the audition, I apprehensively attended the first dance rehearsal.  With most of the people half my age, who all appeared to be confident and graceful  dancers I felt totally out of my depth and started having nightmares that I would be asked to quit!  After I saw the first practice video of me dancing, I was really ready to call it a day.  Luckily the part of me that wanted to continue was marginally stronger than the embarrassed, shy and not-good-enough part.

So I started making use of EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)/ Tapping to release these uncomfortable feelings using statements such as:

“Even though I am a crap! dancer, I deeply and completely accept myself  just as I am”

“Even though I’m too old, I deeply and completely accept myself”

“Even though I’m gorky and uncoordinated, I choose to be open to the possibility of becoming more graceful”

“Even though I embarrassed about the way I look when I dance I choose to do it anyway!”

After attending an inspiring flower essence workshop, I asked Shelley Shishton, the facilitator, to make up some a remedy to help me feel more confident and graceful.  I call it my dancing drops!

Since doing the EFT and taking the remedy, I have become calmer and more relaxed about the show and am beginning to look forward to performing in November 2013 (quick plug in case you want to get tickets!).
