Last week the mother of a friend of my daughter died tragically and unexpectedly. It was a great shock that has rippling affects around the community.
The day after this happened I bumped into another mum from the class in the High Street. We talked, cried and hugged each other for a much longer period of time than I had expected to be out shopping and when I got back to my car, a parking inspector was writing a parking fine ticket. I couldn’t believe it. What was the universe trying to tell me?!!!
When I got home, I told my husband who said I should write and complain. I thought it was a waste of time and ignored him so he wrote this letter on my behalf:
“Dear Sir / Madam
I was extremely upset to get back to my car earlier today to find a ticket.
Yesterday a mother in my daughter’s school died suddenly and the whole class and parents are united in shock and grief. I picked up an email from the school this morning confirming the news – copied below.
Today in the street I met a parent who was looking after the girl whose mother had died and she had been taking her to her mother in hospital right to the end. We were both in tears comforting each other for some time and I was late getting back to my car because of this. And then I saw the ticket – you can imagine how that felt!
On compassionate grounds I ask that you waive this ticket.
If you are not able to do this it will be a sad indictment of the lack of humanity and heart in Dacorum. If this is the case please let me know who I can escalate this issue to. I also feel this is something I would want to tell my local MP about, the local newspapers and the head of Dacorum.”
Today I got this response:
…I have noted the points raised in your letter and, as a gesture of goodwill on this occasion only, I have cancelled the Penalty Charge…
Thank you so much Dacorum. You have heart!
