Absolutely yes is the the most obvious answer. EFT, like any mind-body treatment, can release toxins into the body and staying hydrated can reduce the likelihood of uncomfortable symptoms which may occasionally arise such as headaches, tiredness, aching or nausea arising.
This week we ran a 3 day EFT training and since we had odd numbers, I took part in the pair work. One of the exercises is to practice a technique called Tearlesss Trauma in which one works on releasing the intensity of feelings about a previous experience or trauma that one would like to avoid! Since we run these workshops quite regularly, it gets harder for me to think up something to work with. So, since I am training in Family Constellations and recognise the impact that ancestral trauma can have on the individual, I decided to work on a trauma from the Second World War that affected my grandmother and her parents.
During the session I noticed that my throat was dry and I needed a drink. Instead of drinking I suggested to my partner that we tap on the fact that my throat was dry and that I needed a drink. During the tapping an image came to mind of my great grandparents who died during the war and may not have had enough water to drink. With that thought came guilt that I do have enough water and they didn’t. So we tapped on the guilt and released it. From there, arose the desire to honour the courage and bravery of my grandmother and great-grandparents to save my grandmother’s life for which without this I wouldn’t be here. Another round of EFT and then arose a fear of being able to live a full life in honour of them. With more tapping the fear subsided. If I had drunk the water when I was thirsty, would I have been able to connect with this aspect of the trauma? As it happens I do often struggle with feeling dehydrated and drinking enough water so I am curious to know if there is a connection!
