Every week I offer a EFT tapping taster session on a live broadcast on blab. This week my guest was Sophie who came to me with sleeping issues. For the past 11 years she has woken up suddenly from her sleep with a jolt. A few seconds after waking a rush of adrenaline kicks in, followed by thoughts going crazy, feelings of doom and gloom and a clenching feeling in the upper bowel. She has tried everything to resolve this and since it is one of her menopause symptoms she it addressed it with HRT, acupuncture, herbs and lots more with no improvement.
When I asked her how she felt about the fact that this was happening, she said disappointment and resignation in her chest and heaviness in her head. A round of tapping uncovered the underlying feeling of fear that this pattern in never going to end and that she is going to have to spent the rest of the life like this as well as feelings of sadness. lost and loneliness. Another round and Sophie described a feeling of a sharp intake of breath.
After another round Sophie made the connection that this pattern started when she stopped breastfeeding her son. This raised her awareness of her anxiety about his safety when he was a baby and her habit if checking to see that he was still alive when he was sleeping. I then asked her how his birth was. She said that although it was a gentle home water birth, the cord was wrapped around her son’s chest so there were some unresolved issues around that. She also then remembered that a few weeks after the bird, her pregnant friend’s baby died before birth due to the cord being around the baby’s neck. This brought up sadness and guilt that she had a baby whereas her friend’s baby had died. So there were lots of realisations and insights around where to go next with tapping to support her in healing this issue. Since Sophie is training to be an EFT practitioner with us, I suggested she continue the process using an EFT technique called the Movie Technique on her son’s birth and the memory of hearing about her friend’s baby in order to release the negative emotions and beliefs created around these memories.
Since the feeling of a sharp intake of breath was familiar to Sophie prior to the start of the sleeping problem, I asked her if she knew anything about her own birth. Babies, whose cord is cut before it has stopped pulsating may have to gasp for their first intake of breath, if they are not ready for it. This is because up until this point they are receiving oxygen from the mother via the cord and placenta. If the cord is cut once it stops pulsating the baby can take her first breath when she is ready rather than it being a forced breath. If this has been a traumatic experience for the baby, I have observed in my clients that it can have repercussions with the shock still trapped in my client’s body which can be released with EFT.
We completed the session with a round of Positive EFT on complete joy 🙂
Here is a recording of the session ( sorry about the sound problems!)
