Blue Monday and New Years Resolutions

by | Jan 15, 2017 | EFT | 0 comments

Blue Monday, the third Monday of the year, is considered to be the most depressing day of the year.  And lets face it – we have had a tough couple of years! We had Christmas to look forward to and keep us going has gone, sales have finished and the long winter lies ahead!  And if you did make new years resolutions this year, the chances are they are forgotten.

new years resolutions failingEvery year millions of people start out the year with good intentions only to lapse into old habits a few days or weeks later.  According to Journal of Clinical Psychology, only 8% of people making new years resolutions are successful in achieving their goal.  75% maintain their resolution for the first week, 64% for one month and only 46% past 6 months.  So is there any point in trying to change?

Just making new years resolutions isn’t enough.  Everyone has a list of unhelpful beliefs that they tell themselves is the reason why they can’t achieve their goal.  For example if a woman wishes to lose weight, she might also believe that she will get fatter as she gets older just like her mum did.  These types of beliefs may be subconscious.  Psychologists and scientist now agree that at best we are only 15% conscious of our choices and motivations!  That means that 85% of our actions and choices are made unconsciously and are based on beliefs created from past experiences and that don’t have any relevance today.  So without realising we will be drawn to activities that support these unconscious beliefs.

Here is an exercise for you to do to increase the likelihood of realising your new years resolution.  Firstly identify what it is that you would like for this year.  Here is a list of common new years resolutions:

1 Lose Weight
2 Getting Organized
3 Spend Less, Save More
4 Enjoy Life to the Fullest
5 Staying Fit and Healthy
6 Learn Something Exciting
7 Quit Smoking
8 Help Others in Their Dreams
9 Fall in Love
10 Spend More Time with Family

Then, get a piece of paper and without censoring your thoughts, complete the following sentences.  Write at least 5-10 reasons for each of these statements:

I want this because:

I don’t want this because:

I can’t have this because:

I don’t deserve to have this because:

I’m scared to have this because:

Now rate the intensity of each completed sentence on a scale from 0 to 10.  0 being no intensity at all and 10 being the most intense.  The intensity maybe positive or negative.  If positive it may feel like a strong attachment.

Next circle all the sentences with the highest ratings and use EFT on them.  If you haven’t done EFT before, you can download a free manual to help you get started.

Your setup statement will be something like this:

“Even though I want this <state your new years resolutions here> but <state your opposing statement here>, I deeply and completely accept myself”

For example:

“Even though I want to be my pre-pregnancy weight again (yes, this was mine one year – and yes, I did achieve it!!!) but I don’t believe I can lose weight – it only happens to other people, I deeply and completely accept myself”

Now think about the statement you tapped on, that conflicted with your intention and again rate it on a scale of 0 to 10.  It should have dropped and if it didn’t, please refer to the EFT manual for directions on how to deal with this.  Keep doing tapping rounds until the intensity on the statement drops to 0.  Then do the same on the next statement with the highest intensity until that too has dropped to 0.  Keep going until the intensity on all the objections to the intention have reduced to 0.  You should be feeling fantastic now – watch this space to see what you attract into your life!
