Last weekend I was privileged to take part in Brad Yate‘s Success Beyond Belief workshop using EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)/ Tapping where it was lovely to catch up with so many of the EFT practitioners that Peter and I trained. What I appreciated most about the workshop is Brad’s humour, sharp intuition and creative metaphors.
To say we did a LOT of tapping is no exaggeration! After breaks the workshop lasted 14 hours and about 80% of that time was physically tapping – by my calculations that is about 190 taps per minute, 11400 per hour and whopping 127,680 taps over the weekend!!!!! WOW! Well, I should be totally sorted now!
According to Brad, Success Beyond Belief can be defined in two ways:
1. A lot of success – like, an unbelievable amount!
2. The success you are capable of when you move beyond your
current beliefs about what you could (or should) be, do and have.
At the start of the workshop, Brad asked us to focus on what success meant to us personally and I decided to focus on loving myself. I believe that when I love myself fully and unconditionally, life flows with ease. So when by lunchtime I was noticing resistance arising in the shape of being too hot then too cold, then I couldn’t get comfortable and I was waiting for the next break so I could get some fresh air, I asked myself whether this was resistance and whether loving myself meant removing myself from the workshop. I wanted to get the most from the workshop and part of me was trying too hard! When I raised this during the workshop, Brad tapped with me on resistance and “shoulds”. Just by acknowledging the feelings and allowing them to be present, tapping allowed me to settle, relax and be fully present and receptive for the rest of the workshop.
Brad brought into his tapping sequences the idea that beliefs can be not just inherited or absorbed from parents but from previous generations and ancestors as well, which is an area I am particularly interested in. Parents do the best they can with the resources they have. If they tell their children that money is the root of all evil or that children should be seen and not heard, the chance are that they heard that from their parents too.
Another topic that arose was the area of self care. There are so many things we want do to take care of ourselves such as juicing, gratitude journals and exercise. We tapped on conflicting feelings of never getting round to the things that are good for us. I believe it is important to identify things that we feel we “should” do versus things that we do for ourselves out of self love. When faced with the desire/ need or should around a particular self-care practise a good question that Peter, my husband, introduced to me is to ask ourselves is “If I truly loved myself, what would I do?” Sometimes the answer would be to do the juice/ journal etc and other times it might be kinder to use that time to rest or do that chore that you have be putting off.
The topic of power came up and Brad incorporated one of my favourite poems by Marianne Williamson:
Our Deepest Fear
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Thank you, Brad for a wonderful weekend.
