Life Makover – Skiing and EFT

SkiingAt the end of every year I like to review my year and set new intentions for the next year. So powerful were my learnings for 2013, I thought I’d share them in case you can learn from or be inspired or avoid some of my pitfalls!

At the beginning of 2013, my husband announced that he was going skiing with our daughter and I was more than welcome to join them.  This might sound odd but for years he has wanted to go and I haven’t so we didn’t – until this year.  I still didn’t want to go but I wanted to stay behind even less, so after a difficult dilemma, I decided that going was the lesser of two evils – not a good way to start a holiday!

Although I did a bit of EFT beforehand I didn’t really address the root causes of the issue. I was really scared of skiing even though I have skied before about 20 years ago.  Since I believe in the law of attraction, I feel my negative attitude contributed to the trauma that was to unfold on the slopes: this involved not knowing how to get off a ski lift at the right point, ending up at the top of a mountain on a run way harder than my limited ability, being totally petrified to ski down but trying anyway and ending up being rescued by a ski bike and taken down!

Feeling totally traumatised afterwards I became aware of painful beliefs that had become reinforced and intensified as a result, such as “I am a failure” and “I am weak”.  Luckily for me I have an amazing EFT practitioner for a husband who patiently tapped with me to start unravelling these uncomfortable thoughts and feelings and this year I have stepped out of the comfort zone in new and wonderful ways.

As a result of loosing some weight and getting fit, I was able to run a 10k marathon – something I would never have thought I was capable of in the past.

I took part in a musical with a chorus part of singing and dancing – a childhood dream -which involved lots of tapping to release feelings of not being good enough!

And lastly – the icing on the cake:  After the skiing incident I knew I didn’t want to die having never tried to ski again so when we received the generous invitation from some friends to have a skiing holiday with them in their Alpine chalet, it was an offer we couldn’t refuse.  Luckily one of our friends is a very patient skiing expert who helped me to regain my confidence and dare I even say joy of skiing!

2013 has confirmed to me my new beliefs that  “I am strong” and “I am creating opportunities in my life to feel and be successful!”

I am now looking forward to the gifts of 2014.
