Do you love or hate “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman? If you haven’t, here is the video:
For me it was love at first site. I resonated with the lyrics and it connected with my desire to break free from the limiting beliefs that I have put on myself.
Around the time of my birthday I had a great idea to invite my friends to a This Is Me party! Just like when the Happy song was released by Pharrell Williams, people got together to sing and dance and make a video, I thought we could do the same with This Is Me. Imagine my disappointment when all my friends just happened to be washing their hair that day!
I have always loved dancing and as a child, I had a secret fantasy of performing with Pans People on Top of the Pops (for those of you who are old enough to remember!). When my husband heard about the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony volunteer opportunities, he thought this would be the ideal chance for me (and him) to have some serious fun. You can read about it here.
Back to my This Is Me story – one of my friends just happened to know a dance teacher of Hugh Jackman (lead actor in The Greatest Showman) who was willing to give her and I a couple of dance lessons teaching us the choreography from This Is Me! I was filled with excitement and terror!
Watch here as I tell my story to Elaine Godley‘s for her Perfect Health radio channel.
As you saw from my interview, I did a lot of tapping in between dance lessons.
I was due to do swap with my lovely business bestie Sarah Sienkiewicz but I was so upset about the dancing I was not in a fit state to give her a session so it was lucky that she is an EFTer too! After the session I continued and between us, we tapped on the grief about my own body not being able to move in the way I would like it to, on the shame and embarrassment of crying, of not being able to connect to my strength and express it and on memories that connected my ability to dance, including my experience of dancing in The Wedding Singer and being acknowledged by the director of the wedding singer for my commitment and dedication to my role,
I am pleased to say that I was able immerse myself more fully in the second lesson and even though it was tough (the teacher has a very high standard!), I gave it my best shot!
