Healing Through the Mother Line

What is healing through the mother line?

When we are able to face our family roots more fully and look with open eyes, mind and heart, we are capable of letting go of that which does not serve us and step into our lives with more presence, courage, love and vitality.

Through the centuries the power of maternal love and connection has been revered and through a synergy of EFT and family constellation work we are able to use that power for healing.

How does it work? What exactly happens?

The workshop participants are either issue holders or representatives.

Each issue holder gets a turn to do work in his/ her issue which lasts about 1 hour. She will be asked to invite workshop participants to represent her mother ancestors (called representatives). Representatives may be asked to share what they are feeling, to say various healing sentences to other representatives or to tap on the feelings.

Issue holders report that by the end of the process, they feel better or lighter in some way – it might have been a feeling of resolution of the problem, insights into the bigger picture, a shift in perspective or a deeper understanding for other family members being represented. Sometimes the other people being represented change as a result of this process whether they are aware of it or not. The feelings and insights often continue after the session is finished.

Last week I held a workshop on healing through the mother line and some of the participants have agreed to share their experiences.

One issue holder’s mother left her when she was a child to be with another man. Her intention was to be free of her sadness. She was yearning for her mother’s love and yet she was angry at her for leaving her. Through the constellation the mother was able to see the repercussions of her actions, accept responsibility and start being present with her daughter and offering her love to her daughter. As a result, her daughter, the issue holder, was able to express her grief that she had held in for all these years and receive her mother’s love.

Another issue holder was carrying the pain of the trauma of her mother being abused when she was a child that had not been acknowledged or dealt with appropriately. The issue holder’s grandmother had felt ashamed and not had the tools to handle the situation resulting in the mother not being able to digest the event. The issue holder saw her mothers pain and out of loyalty to her, took it on to be her own. Through the constellation we were able to unravel the entanglement of mother and daughter. The daughter was able to lovingly and respectfully hand back what did not belong to her which helped her feel more clearance and trust (which was her intention from the constellation).

One issue holder’s mother committed suicide when she was a teenager. She felt that her ability to experience joy stopped at that point. As we put in place the generations of mothers who came before her, it became apparent that the mothers had suffered during times of communism and that the flow of love from one generation to the next had been interrupted. By coming to a place of acknowledging and agreeing to the difficult past and circumstances of the issue holder’s ancestry, as well as receiving her mother’s blessing to be free of the past and follow her joy, she was able to look at her representative for joy and feel ready to embrace that.

Each person’s experience is personal but the bond between the people helping to resolve these issues is extraordinary. There is no “right” answer, but love and support help all involved to feel freer of burden and sadness.
