Walking the Labyrinth

Last week we had a first post lockdown holiday camping in Weymouth. On a walk across Portland we stumbled across this beautiful labyrinth.

A labyrinth a metaphor for a sacred journey and walking it can allow wisdom and initiation to arise.

There is one way in and one way out and unlike a maze, you can’t get lost. The invitation is to let go your thinking mind and surrender into the present moment, trusting what does or does not arise. You can ask a question or bring an intention to the walk.

The labyrinth journey consists of 3 phases. The journey in (letting go), the centre (“Ulteria and illumination) and the journey out ( integration).

At the entrance of the labyrinth there was a scallop shell the the writing “Ulteria”. The scallop shell is a symbol of the pilgrim walk the Camino de Santiago and Ulteria is a greeting sometimes used on the camino offers the encouragement to keep going, reaching ‘beyond’ as you head onwards.

I loved the synchronicity that as I walked the labyrinth, I happened to be wearing my pink scallop shell T-shirt I bought in Santiago de Compostella last year after walking the last 100km of the Camino!

My labyrinth intention was to get inspiration for creating more vibrant health. As I walked in I got a sense that there is some toxicity in my body that can be released with the aid of supplements and qi gong exercises. I also got a sense that I needed to allow more trust into my life. As I meditated in the centre, I felt beautiful white spiralling energy around me. The journey outwards felt less smooth than I anticipated but got easier as I progressed.

It was a beautiful and sacred experience.

As we were leaving the labyrinth, a woman approached us and told us that she is the artist @Annie Davenport Turner who build the labyrinth and that she was so pleased to see us enjoying it. Thank you so much Annie for creating this beautiful opportunity.

Have you walked a labyrinth? Where was it? I love hearing about labyrinth walks…
