Exam Stress – it could be different!

Sarah turned over the exam paper and stared at the sheet in front of her. The words seemed blurred and incomprehensible. She was exhausted from spending most of the night doing last minute cramming. Waking up late and lacking appetite, she skipped breakfast and now the emptiness in her stomach, dry mouth and spinning head were taking over.

Over the last few months the exam stress and anxiety had been building. Sarah tried to start revising three months ago but realising the enormity of the task of learning two years worth of material, she felt overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. So she put it off, prioritising easier, more manageable tasks, leaving the bulk of the revision.  As time got closer, her sleep and appetite started to suffer as the anxiety rose. When the exams were almost upon her, she was shocked into action with a sense of urgency as she felt her whole future depended on these exam results.

This is a common scenario that many teens of today experience with their GCSEs and A Levels.

What if the following was possible?

Three months before the exams Sarah realised she had to start revising. She noticed a sense of overwhelm at the enormity of the task so she used a powerful self help technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)/ Tapping to release the overwhelm and to increase her sense of clarity and trust in herself that she could do it.

Every morning she did a 5 minute Tapping session to visualise a positive outcome for her exams. She found that her revision flowed better and was able to focus and retain information more easily. When she felt stressed after talking to her friends who were panicking about revision, she Tapped to stabilise herself. When she noticed overwhelmed creep back, she Tapped again.

The night before the exam she Tapped to have a great night sleep.

On the morning of the exam she Tapped to create calm and clarity.

Standing outside the exam hall, she Tapped subtly on her fingers to maintain a sense of calm and focus.

During the exam, when she noticed that she hadn’t revised for  one of the questions, she Tapped under the desk and visualised herself going to the library of infinite knowledge and finding the information she required. She left the exam feeling dizzy so she Tapped to released that feeling so that she was ready to prepare for the next exam the day ahead.

EFT is being successfully used by parents and with students in schools in the UK and worldwide.
